Are you interested in volunteering or know someone that is? The Summer Village is looking for Community‐Minded Volunteers!
The Summer Village is working with other urban municipalities within Lac Ste. Anne County boundaries with respect to Emergency Management. Included in this would be the formation of an Emergency Management Agency for all 12 Summer Villages, and then an Emergency Management Committee which will work with the 4 emergencies agencies (Summer Villages, Mayerthorpe, Alberta Beach and Onoway). Through this process we will be looking for a Director of Emergency Management, as well as Assistant Directors of Emergency Management. Currenty Volunteer Opportunity:
Director of Emergency Management (DEM) for the Summer Village. As the DEM, you would be involved in attending courses throught the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, corresonding with Council and Administration to assist in educating the residents on Fire Smart best practices and aiding in the review of emergency related materials such as bylaws and disaster planning documents.
(note: the Summer Village would compensate this volunteer position with reimbursement for mileage and meeting time)
Other Volunteer Opportunities:
1) Fire Smart - Would you like to become a Fire Smart Community Champion? As a Community Champion, you would recruit others from your community to create a Fire Smart Board which will include other homeowners and fire professionals and possibly land managers, planners and members of other interest groups. You would advocate for wildfire safety in your community neighbourhood and motivate and organize your neighbours in reducing the potential for wildfire losses. 2) Wildfire Mitigation - The Summer Village has been working with other stakeholders with respect to wildfire mitigation within our Summer Village. Part of this process is identifying at-risk areas and developing a strategy to address them.
