West Cove

1 - Back Alleys and Lanes Update

At the regular Council meeting held on October 26, 2017 Council passed a motion to restrict access to all back lanes and alleys within the Summer Village to vehicles 1 tonne or less effective March 1st, 2018 which would include sewer trucks, and further advised that if a property has had sewer trucks pumping out from the alley/lane, the owner would need to make alternate arrangements with their sewer hauler to have the pump out take place from the front of the property (paved road).

At the regular Council meeting held on November 30th, 2017, Council received feedback from many residents within the Summer Village concerned with the negative impacts this decision would have on them and in some cases their neighbours.  Council is going to take time to reconsider their previous decision, taking into account all of the resident feedback and negative impacts brought forward, and they will be revisiting this matter at their January Council meeting.

At the regular Council meeting held on January 26th, 2018, Council rescinded their original motion to restrict back alleys and lanes to vehicles 1 tonne or less come March 1st, 2018.  Council has directed Administration to review options for improving the current state of the back alleys/lanes, including hiring a consultant.   Further discussion on the future of our alleys and lanes will take place at future Council meetings.

Thank-you to all residents who responded to our letter, and who took the time to engage in this conversation.
